今天我們學(xué)習的第一個表達是個「萬金油短語」，使用范圍非常廣。manner 常用來表示「方式」，比如， in a friendly manne r 意思是「以友好的方式」，即「友好地」。而 all manner of sth 卻用來表示 many different kinds of things or people，既可以指「各種各樣的事物」，也可以指「形形色色的人」，比如， all manner of people 。 不過前者居多。

不過大家需要注意的是，manner 在這兒是單數(shù)，而不是復(fù)數(shù) manners。因為復(fù)數(shù)形式 manners 通常用來表示polite ways of behaving in social situations「禮貌，禮儀」。比如，你想夸別人「有禮貌」，需要說 have good manners ，如果用 have good manner 那就錯咯。

如果你只看過 tempt 的中文釋義，很容易被誤導(dǎo)。有些詞匯書、網(wǎng)絡(luò)詞典或 app 把 tempt 的中文標注成「引誘，誘惑」，給人以貶義的印象。但這個單詞并非僅僅用作貶義，還可以用于表達 褒義、中性 的感情色彩，即 to try to persuade someone to do something by making it seem attractive「吸引」。

The new program is designed to tempt young people into studying engineering.

這項新計劃的目的是為了吸引年輕人學(xué)習工程學(xué)。

tempting

由此派生的形容詞 tempting 意思是「吸引人的，誘人的」。不過呢，很多時候我們得結(jié)合上下文來翻譯 tempting。拿上面這個例句來說， it is tempting to emphasise its missteps 字面含義為「緊盯失誤很有吸引力」，但實際作者想說的卻是「人們很容易緊盯失誤」，忽視了機構(gòu)的正面作用。

At first glance, it would be tempting to agree.

乍一看，會讓人很想同意。

所以，當我們想表達「不禁做某事，很容易想去做某事」時，可以用上 it is tempting to do sth。剛才這個句子如果我們換個寫法，可以改成： People tend to emphasize its missteps 。但語言不如前者生動，沒法表現(xiàn)出人們抵抗欲望卻又屈服于欲望的感覺。我們來看 2021 年 12 月六級真題的仔細閱讀。

這個表達我們?nèi)ツ曛v過，這次在外刊中再次碰到。reminder 派生自動詞 remind，所以詞義跟「提醒」有關(guān)，指的是「起提醒作用的東西」。Sth is a reminder that... 中，that 引導(dǎo)的是一個同位語從句，解釋這項提醒究竟包含什么內(nèi)容。整句話相當于 Sth reminds sb of…。

疫情讓全世界蒙受重創(chuàng)，但也促進了社會的進步，比如，數(shù)字支付、遠程醫(yī)療、遠程工作等被更多人所接受。下面我們來看《經(jīng)濟學(xué)人》的評價。如果大家需要評論其影響，這會是一個很不錯的句子。
