嚴格來說，它們應該是「同近義替換」。因為很少會有一個單詞與另一個單詞完全相同的情況。

enthralling 有吸引力的

enthralling = attractive, interesting, tempting

Those firms that cannot afford pop stars can have an astronaut regale executives with tales of life in space—not Queen Bey, exactly, but potentially enthralling to the nerdier elements of the workforce.

譯文：請不起流行歌星的公司可以邀請一位宇航員講講太空生活的故事，為高管們助興。來的不是碧昂絲，但可能對那些技術宅員工們很有吸引力。

be enthralled by sth

提到「迷人的」，除了用 attractive 還能用啥？如果你忘記 tempting，我當即淚灑當場！學過，真的學過，。

enthralling 形容詞派生自動詞 enthral，用來表示 to make someone very interested and excited「使著迷」，因此大家能專注聽你講話、表演等。這個動詞常用于被動語態，構成 be enthralled by sth，表示「迷住某人，使某人著迷」。注意咯，enthral 的現在分詞、過去分詞都需要雙寫 l，所以形容詞 enthralling 里面倆 l。不過這個動詞的美式寫法本身就有兩個 l，即 enthrall。

In real-life, the band have memorable songs and a stage vigour that enthrals all the audience.

在現實生活中，這支樂隊的一些歌曲令人難忘，他們的舞臺魅力令所有觀眾為之著迷。

enthralling

知道動詞后，形容詞的意思就很輕松了是吧，表示 extremely interesting「迷人的，非常有趣的」。于是「非常有趣的經歷」就可以寫得跟其他人不一樣，變成 an enthralling experience。下面我們來《經濟學人》的例句。

Evolution’s most enthralling insight is that breathtaking complexity can emerge from the sustained, implacable and nihilistic competition within and between organisms.

bullish 充滿信心的

bullish = optimistic/confident

Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s boss, is unsurprisingly bullish, talking of a “new computing era”. Investors seem just as jubilant.

譯文：英偉達老板黃仁勛不出意料地信心滿滿，大談「新的計算時代」。投資者似乎也同樣歡欣鼓舞。

bullish

這個詞來源于名詞 bull，除了表示動物「公牛」外，還可以表示「多頭，股市看漲的人」。因此行情好的「牛市」為 bull market。

bullish 原本是指「牛市的，對股票價格看漲的」，后來引申為 feeling confident about the future，表示「對未來樂觀的，充滿信心的」，構成搭配 be bullish about/on sth，表示「看漲某物」或 「對某物充滿信心」，但這個短語很少用來表示「對某人有信心」，所以不能完全把它和 confident 等同。

He's very bullish about the company's prospects.

他對公司的前景充滿信心。

be down to sth 歸因于某事

be down to sth = be caused by sth

The striking progress in artificial intelligence over the past decade is mostly down to advances in machine learning, whereby computers teach themselves complicated tasks by crunching large quantities of data, rather than having to be programmed directly by humans.

be down to sb/sth

當我們想表示「A 由 B 引起」這樣的因果關系時，常用 A is caused by B 來表達。除此之外，我們還能用另一個詞組來表達，那就是 be down to sb/sth，表示 to be the result of one person's actions or one particular thing「由……引起或造成」。語態從被動變成了主動。

She claimed her problems were down to the media.

她聲稱她的問題是媒體造成的。

去年《經濟學人》有報道過「報復性旅游」，其中也用到了這個短語，我們來讀一讀。

Some of the havoc is down to tourism rebounding unexpectedly fast.

這種亂局一方面是緣于旅游業反彈之快出人意料。

be down to sb

這個短語還有另一個義項，表示 to be the responsibility of sb「是某人的責任，由某人負責」。

It's down to me to make sure that everyone is happy.
