據上鐵集團消息，根據有關文件通知，明確新建巢湖至馬鞍山城際鐵路線路名稱為巢馬高速鐵路，簡稱“巢馬高鐵”。巢馬高鐵起于巢湖東站，向東經含山縣、和縣、鄭蒲港新區、當涂縣、經開區、雨山區、花山區后，引入馬鞍山東站，正線全長61公里，設計時速350公里。
