前些日子，母親又提起我的婚事，語氣里帶著幾分焦慮，幾分茫然。她說：“你若不成家，我們做長輩的，竟不知余生該如何安排了。”這話初聽頗有些可笑，細思卻感到一陣蒼涼。

我起初不解，何以我的獨身，竟能影響他們的余生？后來漸漸明白，他們的生命意義，大半系于子女身上。我們每完成一項“人生大事”，他們便似完成了一項重大使命，可以在功勞簿上畫下一筆。若我們不按常理出牌，他們便覺得手中該交出去的接力棒無人承接，跑道上忽然失了方向。

然而我想，每個人都有自己的路要走，何必非按他人的地圖前行？長輩們的愛固然可感，但過分將心神寄托于子女的婚姻家庭，反而顯出自己的世界日漸狹窄。他們那一代人，往往為家庭犧牲太多，待到晚年，竟不知如何為自己而活。
