美加墨世界杯1/16決賽，澳大利亞與埃及進(jìn)入到點(diǎn)球大戰(zhàn)。這是世界杯歷史上第38場(chǎng)點(diǎn)球大戰(zhàn)，也是首場(chǎng)沒有歐洲和南美球隊(duì)參與的點(diǎn)球大戰(zhàn)。
此前37場(chǎng)點(diǎn)球大戰(zhàn)里，有34場(chǎng)有歐洲球隊(duì)參與，其他三場(chǎng)則都有南美球隊(duì)參與，分別是2010年世界杯1/8決賽巴拉圭點(diǎn)球5-3日本、2010年世界杯1/4決賽烏拉圭點(diǎn)球4-2加納以及2014年世界杯1/8巴西點(diǎn)球3-2智利。
此前，亞洲球隊(duì)參加過3次點(diǎn)球大戰(zhàn)，其中韓國(guó)1勝，日本2負(fù)；非洲球隊(duì)參加過3次點(diǎn)球大戰(zhàn)，其中摩洛哥2勝，加納1負(fù)。
