Theme: What Are Humans in the Eyes of Dinosaurs?
Imagine a world vastly different from our own—one not dominated by humans. In this world, dinosaurs never went extinct; instead, they survived for eons, eventually developing thoughts and language. To them, humans are simply "a certain type of creature" .
This world is the creation of Swiss playwright Ariane Koch. Her play, The Dead Friends (Dinosaur Monologues) 【Die toten Freunde (Dinosauriermonologe)】, is set in a distant future where civilization is written by dinosaurs. When a human stumbles into this reptilian world, how are their biological traits recorded? How is their every move interpreted? Will they end up as a specimen in a museum?
Through this play, Ariane Koch pulls us away from our daily lives and into a seemingly absurd world. By using the voices of dinosaurs, she invites us to re-examine what it means to be human and what defines civilization.
The project "This Time, Once Again: Believing in Theatre" continues. This April, Ariane Koch will travel to China to meet theatre enthusiasts in Beijing and Shanghai. On Saturday, April 25, she will be at OW Space (Langyuan Station, Beijing) to discuss this work with Li Yinan, writer, critic, and theatre practitioner , and Zhao Fang, editor of One-Way Street.
We look forward to seeing you there. Come and spend an afternoon with us, briefly becoming a "dinosaur" and try observing humanity through their eyes.

Li Yinan, also known by the pen name Yi Nan, is a writer, critic, and theatre practitioner working in the shifting terrain between literature and performance. Her practice unfolds across page and stage, where writing and rehearsal become parallel modes of inquiry into the conditions of contemporary expression. Attentive to the thresholds where text and body converge, and where thought begins to take form, her work traces the fragile, generative alignments between language, presence, and perception.
She has taught at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Goethe University Frankfurt, the University of Vienna, and the Central Academy of Drama in China. In 2015, she founded Asia’s first undergraduate program in dramaturgy, contributing to new directions in theatre pedagogy and practice.
She is currently based in Munich, where she continues her work in writing and artistic practice.
